Tested out ONE FC fighter burn_hitman's strength in prep for his next phase of training. Definitely showed an impressive display of strength after our first phase of training. With more than 2x bodyweight deadlift and hip thrust, while a decent control with his Get Ups with 20kg, granted it was his first time doing these. Working hand in hand with timothy_jeffe nutrition giving a larger impact in his performance. I see a lot of strength and conditioning coaches focus too much on "conditioning" or tiring out the athlete in training or too intense off the bat thinking that this would get him in good condition. That's simply "working out" the athlete. In any sport, I always seek the value of training the athlete for a good base level of strength first before building up other qualities to improve performance. At the same time, im not trying to make a powerlifter out of everyone and just get him strong. Build him up, get him strong and address the needs of his sport. Killing the athlete or making him puke day in and day out will not get him "more conditioned". There will always be a right time and place for everything.
