Had you asked me back in May when I drew this Nevada tag if I thought would harvest a buck of this caliber I probably would of laughed. My dad passed away 7 months ago. He taught me everything I know about the outdoors. He taught me how to shoot a bow, a rifle, how to call elk, how to love the outdoors, respect the outdoors, the animals, and how to have patience while hunting. Jeff, Eric and myself were in MOD pizza on our way home from a bear hunt in Coeur d' Alene when I found out I drew this tag. I remember them both looking at me and saying lets make this hunt for your dad. Although It would be my first bow hunt without him I couldn't help but smile when they said that. It meant so much. The 26 years that I got to spend by my fathers side was something I will cherish forever. Being by his side in the woods watching him hunt as a youngster are some of my favorite memories with him. Matter of fact I can recall in my younger days 3 deer racks hanging on the wall in our garage, all 3 were fork and horns that my dad had shot, just like this buck. I would always poke fun at him saying stuff like hey dad did that buck still have spots? Did it have a milk mustache still? Etc. He would always laugh and then threaten me in some sort of fatherly way ☺️ I shot this buck the morning of day 8 in Nevada, our last morning. 8 days of relentless heat, 40 something odd miles hiked above 7,000ft, heavy packs, sore muscles, crappy sleep, trips and falls, cactus mishaps, tired eyes, blisters, all the joys of a true back pack hunt that we have grown to love. To be honest our bags were packed. My bow was strapped to my back pack and I was at terms with the mountain had won. (To see full story continuing reading in the comments) Had you asked me back in May when I drew this Nevada tag if I thought would shoot a buck of this caliber I probably would of laughed. To be honest our bags were packed. My bow was strapped to my back pack and I was at terms with the mountain had won. Before hiking out that morning I decided to glass over the ridge one more time when I had spotted this little buck. Honestly it never even crossed my mind to set out after him, that was until jefflusky caught him in the spotting scope and said lets roll we can do this. So about today... 🤣 Went on a 6 miler scouting for 🦌and Bubba's wheel got a flat tire on the way back down the trail. Thankful we only had about a mile left on the trek before I had to throw this 100 gorilla on my back. He'll live and now it's just a funny story. Finding bucks in Paradise! This was my first time using the new Maven spotter and set of 15's on a hunt that I picked up this summer. I fell in love with both and really had under valued what a good pair of 15's can do for you up in the high country! Four years ago when I officially decided to start documenting my journey and sharing what I'm learning and experiencing I never thought I'd be where I am today. Sitting in a room full of passionate hunters who embody what it is about hunting that I hold dear was a surreal experience. I will say that I was so nervous to be in change of video and audio that I forgot to turn the external mic on for about 30 seconds 🙄 Some things never change 😂 If you are interested is seeing the Q&A portion from the Women's Hunting Social hosted by artemis_sportswomen and mtwildlife, you can find the event in the event section of the mtwildlife Facebook page. The video is posted in two parts on the event feed. Paul stuck it out and made it count on the very last morning of ours in Nevada. Sometimes during a hunt you question your tactics, if you're in the right spot, if you're doing things right.. After making 2 perfect stalks well into bow range on mature bucks only to have the wind switch on us during the waiting game, many of those questions came up!! So proud of Paul and the crew for hammering the mountains with glass finding multiple bucks and waiting for the right time to stalk! huntwild mavenbuilt mavenoptics exointhewild kuiu muleybucks muledeer muleys workedourtailsoff
