"I had wanted to visit Myanmar long before the country re-opened to tourists. The photos I took reveal the fairy-tale-like golden pagoda, crumbling stupa fields, and enormous caves, but they don't show the incredible kindness of the Burmese people." berlinstagram Hsinbyume Pagoda, Mingun, Myanmar passionpassport

"You'd be doing yourself an injustice if you didn't stay in these red 'rorbuers' (fishermen's cabins) in Lofoten, Norway. From the rugged mountains rising out of the sea to the stillness that only exists in such far-flung places, Lofoten is a destination where you can forget about time and just follow the light." jvliachvng Lofoten, Norway Where have you come across the most beautiful light on your travels? We're thrilled to announce the inaugural winners of ThePassportProject: Matthew Greene and Mohammed 'Mo' Ndiaye! . Matthew nominated his foster-son to explore his Senegalese heritage and travel to Dakar, St. Louis, and Ziguinchor. . "Almost immediately after I became Mo's foster dad, he started talking about travel. He asked about getting a passport, told me the places he wanted to visit and detailed creative projects to share the diversity of the human experience with others. This is a young man who wants desperately to contribute to the world, who yearns to become acquainted with 'the other,' who hungers for the varied experiences that will help him to know himself and the world around him." . Stay tuned for updates on their upcoming, untraditional father-son journey to Senegal in the coming days.

The Azure Window in Gozo, Malta, of “Game of Thrones” fame, collapsed two weeks ago. markwickens got to see the arch both before it was popular with tourists and before it fell down. . "On the western edge of the island, with water so blue and rock so yellow, it was a solitary place that prompted self-reflection. The Azure Window was there long before we were, and, because of time and erosion and the natural progression of the landscape of the island, it fell. Sadly, that’s just the way the Earth evolves around us, and we got to witness it firsthand." . Photos by: markwickens, shakb68, and taaynara

"Waiting for the right moment is key for a good photograph — especially when you are photographing wildlife. I spent three hours with this family and, later that night as I reviewed the photographs, I got to relive those hours all over again. You never really know what you're going to capture." fernando_ofarrill Masai Mara, Kenya passionpassport

"I’ve always wanted to see what Disneyland would look like from the air, when all the magical details that make the park so special are out of sight. Since drones aren’t allowed in the airspace above the park, the only way I could get this shot was way up in a helicopter. Seeing this photo now reminds me of when I was a kid and my parents surprised me with my first trip ever to Disneyland. I remember not being able to sleep at all the night before because I was too excited." dirka Disneyland California, USA passionpassport

Congratulations to our PPLessonLearned winner saritarey17 who is reminded in Vatican City that the body can't always keep up with the mind. "No museum or church — not even St. Peter's Basilica — is enjoyable when you're sleep deprived and your back/feet are tanked...." "The night before I reached Machu Picchu, there was a power outage in the town at the base of the mountain. Everything was pitch black, I had run out of cash, and none of the ATMs worked. I had to rely on the kindness of strangers to get to Machu Picchu and, when I did, the first thing I saw was these two llamas embracing each other. Compared to my struggles the night before, it was a tender sight to see." kympham Machu Picchu, Peru passionpassport

By the early 2000s, French Polynesia was exporting hundreds of tons of fins to Asian markets and shark populations plummeted. On December 6, 2012, French Polynesia created the world’s largest shark sanctuary of 1.5 million square miles of sea. "It's getting harder and harder to find places in the world where sharks are in healthy numbers, this is one of the few places that you can find that. As someone that travels the world looking to specifically dive with sharks, it means a lot to have seen this population and spend an afternoon in the water with them."
