An excellent integration of the protagonist's unsolved past is the beach walk scene in an episode of season 2 containing Magnum and T.C. talking about their past and Magnum's wife in the present while a helicopter from their Vietnam War past flies a curve above their heads and out of the frame - of course without being noticed by them and all other beach tourists. No flashback! No cuts! - A perfect example of how the past affects a protagonist's/character's/person's present! . The all-time best integration of a rock star, his song, his performance and his lyrics into a filmic - in this case TV - context: Colin Hay of Men At Work performs his famous song Overkill in an episode of Scrubs demonstrating the emotional state Zach Braff's character J.D. is in. . Humor & Comedy - There are the brilliant stand-up comedians like Richard Pryor, Robin Williams and all those men and women who are on these '100 Best Stand-up Comedians' lists in the net. There are Woody Allen and Peter Sellers and Dudley Moore and Eddie Murphy and Monty Python. But my favorite punchlines are the ones you find in the legendary press conferences with The Beatles! . Wise people say that one should have at least one deep belly laugh a day... Julia Roberts - one of the most talented actresses of her generation (and I mean talent, not commercial success. There are many extremely talented actresses out there, one of them is for example: Kristen Stewart) and one of my all-time favorite American actresses - seems to know that! Are there actresses who laugh more in movies? . Laughing JuliaRoberts ActingTalent

WRITER'S ADVICE no.1: Collect all your ideas - everything from titles, characters, story beginnings and endings, acts, sequences, scenes, shots, beats, plot twists, dialogue, descriptions, actions, drawings to themes, style hints and all helpful unique fragments etc. - in notebooks. - The more story ideas you develop, the more it is possible that you have one great idea among all the others. . CollectStoryIdeas Notebooks FindThatOneIdea . WRITER'S ADVICE no.2: Collect your best ideas in one separated notebook - offline and/or in a cloud. Combine similar ideas to one idea and develop the best ideas to loglines and story concepts (one page, exposé, treatment, beat sheet, scene index cards). Then you start with an intuitive first draft before you use the writing methods for the rewrites. And: don't forget to develop your own story/writing approach matching your individual personality. . Apart from the coming of age drama, the family drama & the romantic drama/comedy the thriller genre - often based on a political and/or economical and/or societal conspiracy, enriched equally often with futuristic fantasy, horror or journalistic elements - is one of my favorite film genres - and 'thanks' to global politics this genre will be the most relevant again very soon. New Hollywood, Part 2... . Excellent examples are, including the paranoia movies: - Chinatown - Mort d'un pourri - Three Days of the Condor - The Parallax View - The Conversation - All the President's Men - Marathon Man - Network - The China Syndrome - Z - The Manchurian Candidate (1962, 2004) - Blow Out - The Bourne trilogy - Minority Report - The Andromeda Strain - The Groundstar Conspiracy - Margin Call - Wall Street - JFK - Arlington Road - The Pelican Brief - Conspiracy Theory - Music Box - L'aveu - État de siège - The Running Man, based on the TV movie Das Millionenspiel - Total Recall - State of Play - The Company You Keep - Absolute Power - The Stepford Wives (1975, 2004) - The Matrix - Le Locataire . I started my WeNeedStories profiles on the net mainly as memos or notepads just for me - but I decided quickly to share everything I could find on writing through research. Now I share all this massive info on Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram etc. with everyone who's interested in writing (and everybody else). . A website, blog, etc. on writing techniques is always incomplete! Something's missing. No, someone is missing. Who? YOU! And your personality. A writer's personality is the one and only reason why stories exist. If you need to write stories, don't waste your lifetime - write! . Write AlwaysEndOnAHighNote

If you like you can find WeNeedStories and much more advice on the craft and business of writing, screenwriting and filmmaking on: Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, Medium, Flickr, LinkedIn. . Fundamental rules: 1 Master the craft: Learn all methods and write. 2 Know yourself, develop your own taste and unique ideas, write for yourself and learn to trust your writing. 3 Network. 4 Always support other writers, filmmakers, etc. even if they have a career before you have one. They won't forget what you did for them and will think of you when they can offer someone a job. 5 There are only individual people in the world. Therefore your writing perspective is individual too. Don't compete with fellow artists in a childish and destructive way. Never act with jealousy, envy or disfavor - all you have to do is to find the person who loves to support your individual work, someone who shares your point of view. 6 The writing and movie industries are emotion-delivery, illusion-delivery and book / movie marketing industries. 7 Always make a next professional move! Sometimes people choose you as their rival (without telling or asking you) and treat you like a rival - quit them immediately and forever and make a next move. 8 To quote from Susan E. Hinton's script for 'The Outsiders': "Stay gold, Ponyboy." - I wish you all the best for your writing projects! .
